Osun State Presents Cheques To Winners Of Nigeria-Malaysia Debate Competition

The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, today presided over a special celebration to honor the 2024 winners of the Nigeria-Malaysia Debate Competition, held at the Exco Lounge of the Governor’s Office.

 

In his speech, the SSG celebrated the outstanding students, who represented not just their schools and Osun State, but Nigeria as a whole, and he proudly acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the students, stating that: “they went, competed, and won, not just at the international level but sailed through local, regional, and national competitions that led to the world.”

 

The students who were recognized for their achievements include: Abimbola Salawat of Methodist High School Ilesha, Adeogo Mercy of Christ African Church Grammar School, Gbodofon Osogbo, Adewale Oluwaseun Esther of Ila Grammar School, Ila Oragun, and Daniels Happy Udubiaka of Master A Secondary School, Ilesha.

 

Igbalaye, Osun state SSG presented each of the four awardees with a cheque of two million Naira, as previously promised by the Governor, in recognition of their exceptional performance.

 

He emphasized the importance of rewarding academic excellence, as he spoke about the principles of education and how recognizing achievement motivates future success.

 

Speaking further, the SSG made an additional promise to recognize the principals of the schools. “I further promise to give each of the principals of these four winning schools one hundred thousand Naira each as a token of appreciation. We must appreciate them,” he stated.

 

Igbalaye expressed gratitude to Governor Ademola Adeleke for sponsoring the students’ participation in the competition and commended the Honourable Commissioner for Education Hon Dipo Eluwole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mr Murtala Jimoh, and the Executive Secretary of the State Senior Secondary Education Board for their support in facilitating the students’ success.

 

He dedicated the international award to all teachers and inspectors of education in the state, whose tireless efforts continue to shape Osun State’s education system.

 

It can be recalled as promised by the Governor during the State Education Summit in August 2023, that Osun State remains committed to academic excellence and the continual development of its education sector.
