NAWOJ: Ademiju, New Telegraph Correspondent, Becomes Chairperson of Ekiti Women Journalists

Comrade Adewumi Ademiju, correspondent of New Telegraph Newspaper, has emerged the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti state chapter.

 

Ademiju, who was the immediate past secretary of the association took over the mantle of leadership from Alhaja Fatima Bello after her 6-year meritorious service from 2018 to 2024.

 

At the swearing-in ceremony held at Ekiti NUJ secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, the Chairperson in her acceptance speech, raised concern over the disparity in gender equality, especially the 35% affirmative action which has not been fully implemented.

 

She noted that its non-implementation has been relegating the relevance of women which has further deprived them the opportunity to thrive in their various endeavours.

 

Ademiju pledged that Ekiti NAWOJ, under her watch will be at the forefront in the defense of women right against any form of violation.

 

Her words, “The issue of disparity is still on course on gender equality, the 35% affirmative is still theoretically trending on paper.

 

“Gender inequality is relegating women, depriving them the opportunity to thrive women journalists have enormous roles to play using our various platforms for advocacies on alert to relevant authorities to expedite actions on gender development.

 

“The challenges have given NAWOJ a numerous shoe to wear, Nawojians need to be committed and steadfast to be able to put in our best all the time in curtailing the challenges.

 

“NAWOJ shall be at the forefront in the defense of women right against any form of violation. Priority would be given to women journalists. The association will collaborate with relevant sister organization for actualisation.”

 

On her part, the Vice President of NAWOJ, B-Zone, Comrade Adeola Adekunle urged the new executives to be accountable for their actions and be up and doing in their duties.
