Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025: OSCO-HEALTH Community Advocates Awareness against Stigmatisation and Care for the Girl Child

As the world marks the 2025 Menstrual Hygiene Day, students and medical experts led by the Provost of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, Dr Lateef Olarewaju Raheem has advocated against stigmatisation of the female gender.
This is just as they called for a collective action to ensure that menstruation does not limit access to education, health and other opportunities for a better life for the girl child.
They spoke at a public lecture to mark the World Menstrual Hygiene Day organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society at the College campus.
Speaking further at the programme, the Provost who was represented by the Director of Medical Services at the College, Dr Oyehan Funmiso Omolara noted that the day is seen as the global day of action to create a world where no one is held back just because they menstruate.
While noting that the theme for this year’s programme “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld” is apt, Dr Raheem charged all and sundry to work towards a future where every woman and child can manage their Menstrual circle easily.
Delivering her lecture on the topic: “Managing Menstrual Pain: Tips and Strategy”, the Director of Medical Services, Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, Dr Oyehan Funmiso Omolara advocated for regular physical exercises, taking of healthy diets and supplements, dehydration and stress management.
She also recommended some natural remedies which include: heat therapy, warm bath among others as a means of avoiding cramps and pains during Menstrual circle.
Also in another lecture on Nutrition delivered by Mrs Alonge Caroline from the Environmental Health Department of the College, ladies were made to understand that healthy diet is related to a good follow during menstruation.
She advised ladies to eat well and especially good food at all times, stressing that it goes a long way in preparing them for a good and healthy menstruation, while recommending food rich in Vitamin K, fibre, iron and protein.
In a remark, the Osun State Branch Secretary of Nigeria Red Cross Society, Mr Ogunleye Tolulope called on all stakeholders to join hands in creating a more conclusive approach to fighting the stigma.
He commended the management of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa for their support in ensuring a smooth public lecture.
Also speaking, Osun State Health and Care Officer of the NRCS on World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, Mr Olawale Sunday Asabi assured that the Nigeria Red Cross Society will continue to pursue the fundamental principles in ensuring that the female gender are not stigmatised as a result of menstruation.
He also urged for the promotion of education and awareness on menstruation, increase access to affordable sanitary products and safe facilities as well as working to foster supportive environments that empower women and girls.
