Governor Adeleke Resigns from PDP, Party Postpones Governorship Primaries

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Monday Resigned his membership of People’s Democratic Party.

The Governor in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 2, Ede Local Government noted that his resignation is due to the crisis rocking the national leadership of the party.

The Governor did not however announce which political party he will be joining.

In another development, the National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Unar Muhammed Bature on same day, December 1st, 2025 announced the postponement of the party governorship primaries for Osun state.

He made the announcement in a statement as follows:

“The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) wishes to formally notify all delegates, stakeholders, and the general public that the Osun State Gubernatorial Primary Convention has been postponed. This decision follows ongoing consultations and the need to ensure full compliance with the Party’s constitution, established guidelines, and the Electoral Act.

A new and definitive date for the primary will be communicated in due course after all procedural requirements have been concluded.

“For clarity, the PDP affirms that His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, remains the only duly cleared, screened, and confirmed aspirant for the Party’s gubernatorial ticket in Osun State. No other individual purchased forms or completed the screening process; hence, Governor Adeleke stands as the sole valid aspirant recognized by the Party.

“The Party urges all members, especially delegates and supporters across Osun State, to remain calm, steadfast, and guided by official communications from the National Secretariat alone. The PDP remains committed to transparency, internal democracy, and the rule of law in all its activities.

“We appreciate the patience, understanding, and continued loyalty of our supporters as we work collectively towards a seamless and credible nomination process.
