Food Security: Beneficiaries Shows HFDI Results of Seedlings Received in Akwa Ibom, Appreciates the Organisation

Beneficiaries of the distributed agricultural seedlings by Hope for Family Development Initiatives HFDI has taken the Community Case Workers of the non government organisation to their farmland to show the result of the planted seedlings received.

 

The beneficiaries who are captured caregivers of people living with HIV/Aids received seedlings such as cassava stem, okro seed in Ikot Inyang Eti, and Nsit Ubium LGA of Akwa Ibom state

 

The distribution of Improved Agricultural Seedlings was part of the effort of Hope for Family Development Initiatives HFDI to ensure sustainability to vulnerable households.

 

Similarly quality premium Okra seedlings, and Pro-Vitamin A Cassava Stem were also given to the Caregivers, who had earlier been guided by the CCW Mrs.Ekaette Unah on how to plant and manage this seedlings which can be grown and harvested extensively for profit or subsistence.

 

She reiterated that the provitamin A cassava stem will take just 6 months and the Quality Premium Okra will take 3-months to be ready for consumption.

 

The CSS officer Mr. Williams Daniel had advised the caregivers on cultivating the seedlings by first tilling the soil separately in their various home gardens or farm, and ensure closed monitoring and follow up as this crops are of high-yielding to ensure sustainability.

 

The result from the total of 20 caregivers benefitted, 18 female and 2 male, shows that the seedlings grew as expected and served the purpose of sustaining the family.

 

It should be noted that HFDI distributed improved seedlings of Okra, Quality protein Maize, and TSM419 cassava today to over 25 caregivers in Etinan local government area, to caregivers from Ikot Iwod, Efa, Ikotebo, Ikotebiyak and Ikot Ekang.

 

The caregivers expressed their happiness over this gesture and appreciated HFDI for the feed back and monitoring.
