Ekiti Election: HFDI Participates In INEC Stakeholders Engagement On Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) Exercise

In preparation for the forthcoming Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, Hope for Family Development Initiative, HFDI team joined other Civil Society Organisations, CSOs to attend a day stakeholders engagement meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State.

 

The meeting engaged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), political parties’ / leaders and community leaders on the preparedness of INEC and roles of CSOs ahead of the forthcoming CVR exercise.

 

In his remarks, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omosehinde appreciated the stakeholders for joining the deliberation, he emphasised that the CVR which is to commence on the 18th of August, 2025, is part of the efforts geared towards deepening Nigeria’s democracy through voters registration for the forthcoming and subsequent elections.

Speaking further, he stated that technology in accordance with INEC regulations and local laws would be deployed in designated centres throughout the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.

 

He appealed to individuals, CSOs and political parties’ leaders to intensify efforts through sensitization and awareness for the success of the campaign, and also stressed that the exercise which would be in two forms- on line registration and In-person registration- is for Nigerian citizens who just clocked 18 years of age.

 

Dr. Olasehinde added that “those that have never registered for a voters’ card or those willing to transfer from one location to the other or those whose permanent voters card had been misplaced, are eligible to register.”

 

He stated that the roles of CSOs for the success of the exercise, which included- voters education and public awareness through sensitisation campaigns, mobilisation and inclusion of marginalised groups, deployment of trained observers to monitor and report malpractices/ill-behaviours, advocacy for electoral reforms, capacity building of local volunteers, and promotion of civic engagement and democratic values.

 

The stakeholders at the INEC forum in Ekiti State, pledged their commitment to the success of the exercise through active involvement, sensitisation and mobilisation with a renewed commitment to transparent and inclusive electoral processes.
