Civic Education: INEC Broadens Knowledge of Secondary School Students

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osogbo, has broadened the knowledge of students of Ebunoluwa International School, Osogbo, when it played hosts to the school at the state headquarters.

The civic education was given to the secondary school students during an educational excursion aimed at broadening their understanding of the nation’s electoral processes and institutional structure.

The visit familiarised the students with INEC’s organogram, roles, and electoral activities.

The highlight of the event was an interactive session facilitated by the Honourable Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke who personally addressed the visiting students and their teachers.

In his address, the Hon. REC in company of the Management Team, explained the functions, responsibilities, and constitutional backing of INEC, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in Nigeria’s electoral process.

He enlightened the students on various aspects of election management — from voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) issuance, the meaning and function of IVED/BIVAS, to election monitoring and result collation.

The students, in turn, demonstrated keen interest and engagement as they asked insightful questions covering topics such as PVC acquisition, electoral malpractices, voting procedures, and the importance of civic participation.

The REC commended the curiosity of the young learners and encouraged them to grow into responsible citizens who would contribute positively to Nigeria’s democratic development. He also lauded the school management for taking the initiative to expose their students to the workings of a key national institution such as INEC.

The students were further taken to the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) section, where they observed firsthand how the registration process is conducted and how eligible voters are attended to.
