Bricklayer Remanded For Raping 25-yr-old Physically Challenged Woman

A 38-year-old bricklayer, Olusola Busayo, has been ordered to be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre, for allegedly raping a 25-year-old physically challenged woman.

The defendant was brought before the court on a one-count charge bordering on rape.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adejola Adesuyi, the suspect allegedly committed the offence on January 13, 2026.

Adesuyi told the court that the defendant, a bricklayer who worked for the victim’s family, allegedly took advantage of the victim’s condition while her (victim ) elder sister was asleep and the victim was washing clothes within the compound.

The defendant allegedly grabbed the victim, took her through a window into an uncompleted building, assaulted her, and raped her,” the prosecutor said.

The offence, according to the Prosecutor, is contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Law of Osun State, 2002.

However, Busayo pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the Defendant, K.A. Adepoju, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, arguing that the defendant was presumed innocent until proven guilty and that investigations were still ongoing.

However, the Police Prosecutor opposed the bail application, stating that granting bail could further traumatise the victim.

The prosecutor told the court that seeing the defendant could trigger emotional distress for the victim and noted that she was a vulnerable person.

In her ruling, Magistrate O.A. Daramola denied the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned until February 27, 2026, for further hearing.
