Adeleke Presents ₦705.79bn 2026 Budget of Economic Transformation to Osun Assembly

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has presented a total budget estimate of ₦705.794 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a “Budget of Economic Transformation.” The governor said the financial proposal is not just a statement of revenue and expenditure but a roadmap for sustainable growth, equity, and improved living standards for citizens.

Presenting the Appropriation Bill before lawmakers at the State Assembly Complex, Osogbo, Adeleke explained that the budget is built around the state’s 2023–2050 Development Plan and the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as required by the Osun Fiscal Responsibility Law. He said the proposal reflects his administration’s resolve to complete ongoing projects and initiate critical new ones across all sectors.

According to the governor, the total revenue projection for 2026 includes ₦221.68 billion as the government’s share of FAAC, ₦199.57 billion as independent revenue, and ₦268.35 billion from other receipts. The proposed expenditure profile comprises ₦317.41 billion for recurrent expenditure (45%) and ₦388.38 billion for capital projects (55%), with a strong emphasis on infrastructure, health, and youth development.

Adeleke highlighted the achievements recorded under the 2025 budget implementation, including the construction of over 300 kilometers of roads across the three senatorial districts, completion of flyovers to ease traffic congestion, and continued prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions. He also noted progress in the health and education sectors, including the Imole Youth Corps initiative, which has employed 10,000 young people.

The governor commended the Assembly for its cooperation and patriotic disposition, urging continued collaboration for the state’s development. He assured that the 2026 budget would consolidate ongoing efforts to build a resilient economy, strengthen governance, and deliver democratic dividends to every part of Osun State.

In their separate reactions, Hon. Oderinwale Akinyemi from Ayedire State Constituency and Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi from Obokun State Constituency congratulated the Governor for his open style of governance and commitment to ensuring continuous growth in the state despite the seizure of local government funds meant for grassroots development.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his proactiveness in implementing the outgoing 2025 budget and for his financial prudence in managing the state’s limited resources despite federal interference in local government allocations. He also lauded the cooperation of the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye; and other cabinet members for their roles in the administration’s achievements so far.

The Speaker further pledged the legislative arm’s continuous support for Governor Adeleke’s administration to achieve greater progress in the coming years. He also charged the heads of ministries and agencies to remain committed to the state’s growth by ensuring that all taxpayers fulfill their civic responsibilities for sustainable development.
