APC Endorses Tinubu for 2027 as Senators, Reps Defect in Osun

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, on Saturday endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, as it formally received federal lawmakers who defected from the state’s main opposition party.

The endorsement and reception ceremony, held in Osogbo, drew party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.

Among the defectors were Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Hon. Wole Oke (Ijesa North Federal Constituency), Hon. Taofeeq Ajilesoro (Ife Federal Constituency), and Hon. Olusanya Omirin (Ijesa South Federal Constituency).

The motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by former Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Osun APC Elders’ Forum, Sola Akinwumi, and seconded by Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, said the endorsement was aimed at consolidating what he described as ongoing economic and governance reforms at the federal level.

According to him, the difference between rhetoric and tangible results is evident under President Tinubu’s leadership. He noted that when Tinubu assumed office, Nigeria’s economy was on the brink and required bold decisions, which he said are now beginning to yield results.

Oyetola pointed to improvements in foreign exchange stability and a significant reduction in fuel importation, attributing the developments to strengthened local refining capacity and fiscal reforms.

He added that the lawmakers’ defection signaled growing confidence in the APC’s direction and its commitment to national and state development.

Also addressing the gathering, the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, described the defections as a clear indication of faith in the party’s progressive agenda.

He said the lawmakers’ decision to join the APC demonstrated that its vision remains the most viable pathway to development, stability, and prosperity in Osun State.

Oyebamiji urged party leaders and members to unite in rebuilding the state and strengthening governance, stressing that the task ahead goes beyond individual ambition and focuses on safeguarding the future of coming generations.

In his remarks, the state APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, described the endorsement and the defection of the senators and House of Representatives members as a significant political development ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

He said the formal defection of two senators and three House of Representatives members to the APC marked a rare and notable shift in the state’s political landscape, adding that the party would continue to build momentum in the lead-up to the polls.
