GC7/N-THRIP: HFDI Educates Adolescents On Gender Norms In Kwara Local Governments

Hope for Family Development Initiative HFDI has educated adolescents on Gender norms as part of GC7/N-THRIP project at Ile onikoyi, Odogbesi, oke onigbin, in Isin LGA, at Orisunmibare Community, Kajola, in Oke Ero LGA, and Ijagbo Oyun LGA of Kwara state.
The enlightenment to the adolescent boys and girls by HFDI talked about introduction of Gender norms are societal expectations and rules regarding how men and women should behave, express themselves and interact with others according to their gender.
Gender was also referred to the characteristics assigned to men and women overtime by culture, political, religion and economic environment of a society.
The education also discussed sex as biological and physical characteristics that define males and females, as well as the difference between gender and sex.
Gender equality highlighting boys and girls having equal right to education, opportunities and social value, good services, healthcare, household chores, employment etc, and Gender Based Violence GBV as an act or threat of violences that result in harm or suffering to boys and girls was discussed.
The enlightenment also featured types of GBV, such as Physical, Sexual, Emotional and Psychological violence, as well as recognizing and challenging harmful gender norms, identifying and addressing gender-based violence, developing healthy relationships and communication skills.
