Again, Senator Lere Oyewumi supports over 500 women farmers with training and cash grants

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, has again launched the 13th edition of his constituency empowerment initiative, a comprehensive Women-in-Agriculture Programme designed to strengthen households and bolster local food security across the Osun West Senatorial District.

The rollout gathered hundreds of women farmers from all ten Local Government Areas (LGAs), each receiving modern agronomic training alongside cash grants to expand their crop and livestock enterprises. Addressing the beneficiaries, Senator Oyewumi reaffirmed his commitment to “equipping women with the tools and capital they need to lift entire communities.”

Welcoming participants, Hon. Adesoye Oyetunde, Osun-West PDP Senatorial Chairman, praised the Senator’s “consistent, people-centered representation and his habit of giving back to those he serves,” adding, “When we invest in women, we invest in entire communities.”

Conveying royal blessings from HRM Oba Olatunde Falabi, Akire of Ikire, High Chief Muritala Falana, Aare Omo Oba Ikire Kingdom, hailed the Senator’s “unwavering loyalty to Ikire Land.”

Encouraging the newly empowered farmers, Chief Mrs. Wumi Otunla, Osun PDP Women Leader, urged them to “turn this seed capital into bountiful harvests and scale your agri-ventures.”

Dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Festus Ademola Adeyemo, Commissioner for Energy, Osun State; Hon. Abiola Inaolaji Ibrahim, Member, Osun House of Assembly (Irewole/Isokan); Hon. Olaniyan Jelili Abiodun “Danku,” Special Adviser on Lands to the Osun State Governor; Alh Azeez Lateef Mao; Hon. Oyelakin Sikiru (Commissioner II TESCOM); Hon. Adeyemo Alaran (Local Government Civil Commission); chairmen of all ten PDP LGAs in Osun-West; numerous party stalwarts; and community leaders.

The programme underscores Senator Oyewumi’s broader agenda of inclusive growth, ensuring that women—who form the backbone of local agriculture—receive the skills, finance, and support needed to thrive in 2025 and beyond.
