Adopt A Student: Ansar Ud Deen Ife Old Students Association Pays WAEC Fees

Year 2024 started on a bright note for scores of students of Ansar Ud Deen Grammar School Iloro Ile-Ife students, whose WAEC registration fees were paid by their Old Students Association.

In addition, the Association also paid the Second Term tuition for a number of students.

The Coordinator of the Old Students Association’s ‘Adopt A Student – Make A Difference Programme’, *Barrister Rahmon Akintibubo* thanked all the Old Students of the school for their commitment to the project since it was initiated two years ago.

According to the Ife-based legal practitioner: “We decided to give back to the old school which gave us the platform to become what we are today by adopting brilliant but indigent students of the institution. We are glad that old students of the school keyed into the idea.”

Barrister Akintibubo also acknowledged the contributions of those he described as Friends of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School. According to him: “What is even more surprising is that we have some people who are not old students of the school who also decided to support the project.

We are grateful to His Lordship, Hon. Justice Ganiyat Lawal of the High Court of Osun State who did not attend the foremost school but gladly adopted a student. We must also acknowledge the contribution of Barrister Chiemelie Onyia-Ayo, an Abuja based lawyer, and Barrister Adebayo Haroun, a Director in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice who also adopted students of our school notwithstanding that they are not our alumni. We could not have achieved this without their unwavering support.”

Whilst thanking contributors to the programme, Barrister Akintibubo called on other old students who are yet to adopt a student of the school to do so: “By adopting an indigent student what we are doing is that we are watering seeds of future greatness. These youngsters will never forget us for making a huge difference in their lives.”

Ajibade Aisha, one of the prospective WAEC candidates, thanked the Old Students Association for their support in making their dream of participating in the examination come true. According to her: “We are grateful to our fathers and mothers who, without knowing us, decided to be responsible for our education. We will do our best not to disappoint them, and we promise to also adopt our junior ones in the nearest future.”

Ogbonna Agnes, a JSS3 student, and Oluwaseun Racheal, a JSS2 student, whose second term fees were paid also expressed their gratitude to the Old Students Association. According to Agnes: “What is surprising is that the only criterion for our selection is our brilliance.

The programme is merit-based, and we are very proud of our Old Students Association. Our parents are also grateful for the burden taken off them by the Old Students. We are grateful.”

The Principal of the School, Mr. Abeeb Akande, thanked the Old Students Association for their unconditional support for the growth of the institution over the years. He recalled that it was as a result of the philanthropy of an old student that the Administrative Block which is now called *Onigegewura Block* was renovated and refurbished.

He also recalled that the old students renovated a block of classroom for the school. Like Oliver Twist, Mr. Akande invited more old students of the school to come to the aid of the school which was established in 1979.
