More Filling Stations Reduce Petrol Prices in Abuja as Downstream Competition Intensifies

More Nigerian filling stations have reduced their petrol pump prices to remain competitive in the country’s petroleum downstream sector.

A market survey on Friday showed that AA Rano, Ranoil and other filling stations in Abuja and its environs have reduced their fuel prices to N1,400 per litre from N1,420 per litre. This represents a downward adjustment of N20 per litre by petroleum product marketers.

The latest reduction comes after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, MRS and Geregu filling stations in Abuja reduced their petrol prices to N1,370 per litre.

The price adjustments follow a cut in ex-depot prices by Dangote Refinery more than a week ago. The refinery reduced its gantry petrol price by N25 per litre to N1,325, a move that triggered a drop in retail fuel pump prices across several filling stations in Nigeria.

There are also reports that Dangote Refinery supplied the majority of domestic fuel in Nigeria in August 2026, according to industrial data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
