Osogbo Flood: NAWOJ Commiserates with Affected Women, Families and Business Owners,  Calls for Governments and Public Support

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Osun State Chapter, has commiserated with women, families and business owners affected by the recent flood in Osogbo and called on the government and members of the public to urgently assist victims.

In a statement by NAWOJ Chairperson Comrade Abisola Ariwodola and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi, the association expressed concern over the flooding destruction of property, displacement of households, and the impact on businesses as well as women and children who are often the most vulnerable during disasters.

The Association called on the State Government, relevant agencies, and well-meaning individuals to provide immediate relief materials such as food, clothing, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to those affected.

The Association added that climate change is to be taken seriously and measures should be put in place to control the environmental effects. While it urged people to be compliant with environmental guidelines before building, it urged government to invest in proper drainage systems, urban planning, and public sensitisation in flood-prone areas.

NAWOJ reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying the voices of affected women and ensuring their needs are prioritized in recovery and rehabilitation efforts.

The Association prayed for comfort for the men and women of every affected families and strength for those rebuilding their lives after the disaster.
