HFDI Advocates for Social Protection, Health Insurance Coverage for Vulnerable Children in Akwa Ibom

The Hope for Family Development Initiative, HFDI Nigeria, has engaged the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency on strengthening social protection and access to health insurance for marginalized and vulnerable children in the state.
The collaborative meeting was held at the Agency’s office in Uyo, where Hope for Family Development Initiative delegation, led by the Program Manager, MEAL Officer and Program Officer, represented the Executive Director who was away on official duty.
During the engagement, the HFDI team emphasized the need to prioritize social protection for children, particularly Orphans and Vulnerable Children, OVC, who face barriers to accessing healthcare and other basic services.
The Permanent Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA) Dr. Arthur Igbemi ( commended Hope for Family Development Initiative for its work and positive impact in Akwa Ibom State.
He requested statistics of children enrolled by HFDI under the health insurance programme, particularly those awaiting distribution of their health insurance cards, to enable the Agency to facilitate distribution.
Both parties discussed supporting enrolment of vulnerable children, strengthening social protection, mobilizing resources, and improving access to essential healthcare services through existing government structures.
HFDI committed to provide the requested data and continue engagement with the Agency, while reiterating its service to improve lives of it’s target communities.
