Osun State: Governor Adeleke Prioritizes Worker Welfare with Special Fasting Hours

In a significant move that highlights his administration’s commitment to religious inclusivity and employee well-being, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Sen. (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has approved a temporary reduction in working hours for public servants.

The directive, issued via a circular from the Office of the Head of Service on February 19, 2026, is designed to support the state’s workforce during the simultaneous observance of the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.

A Timely Gesture of Support:

Recognizing the physical and spiritual demands of these holy seasons, the Governor has adjusted the closing times for all public servants as follows:

* Mondays to Thursdays: Work ends at 2:00 PM.

* Fridays: Work ends at 1:00 PM.

This policy is intended to provide civil servants with sufficient time for prayer, reflection, and preparation for breaking their fasts. By easing the daily work schedule, the administration acknowledges the sacrifices made by workers and seeks to support their spiritual health alongside their professional duties.

Praying for Peace and Progress:

The timing of this gesture is particularly poignant. The circular notes that this period of prayer is vital for maintaining the peace and tranquility currently enjoyed in Osun State. With the gubernatorial election scheduled for later this year, the Governor is encouraging public servants to use this extra time to intercede for the continued stability and prosperity of the state.

Balancing Welfare with Public Safety:

While the welfare of the general workforce is a top priority, the administration has remained mindful of public safety. Essential service workers, specifically medical personnel, are excluded from this arrangement. This ensures that life-saving services remain uninterrupted and that the healthcare needs of the citizens are met without compromise.

Leading with Empathy:

This move by Governor Adeleke, communicated through the Head of Service, S. A. Aina, reinforces a leadership style centered on empathy. By harmonizing the work-life balance of the civil service with religious traditions, the Osun State government continues to build a motivated workforce and a harmonious community.
