By Ope BELLO,
A delegation of newly commissioned military officers from Osun State, who recently graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Osogbo today.
The team, led by Flying Officer Abdullah Sanusi, expressed their appreciation to Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke for his administration’s remarkable strides in infrastructure development, particularly in road construction across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Flying Officer Sanusi highlighted the challenges faced by Osun indigenes in securing enlistment into the Nigerian military.
He called for increased support from the state government to bridge the gap in military representation between Osun and other states, especially those in the northern region.
Similarly, Second Lieutenant O.O. Oyegoke underscored the need for more awareness campaigns to encourage participation in military recruitment. He also appealed for greater government support during officers’ training programs, lamenting the low representation of female cadets from Osun State at the NDA.
In his remarks, Flying Officer D.A. Aderinwale applauded the remarkable achievements of Osun-born officers in the military, noting that some have won prestigious awards, including Best Overall Officer. He also echoed concerns about the limited number of female recruits from the state and urged the government to promote inclusive recruitment initiatives.
Responding on behalf of the SSG, Mr. Olusoji Wojuade, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Cabinet and Special Services, assured the visiting officers that their concerns would be communicated to higher authorities. He praised the officers for their dedication and urged them to remain disciplined, patriotic, and committed to national service.
Mr. Wojuade further described the officers as proud ambassadors of Osun State, encouraging them to uphold integrity and honor in the discharge of their duties while reaffirming the government’s continued support for their career advancement.
