OSUN GOVERNOR PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR NIESV, TASKS MEMBERS ON PROFESSIONALISM

Osun State government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has assured Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) Osun State branch of his administration’s support and cooperation.

 

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Abiodun Bankole, made the declaration during the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD 2025) event organized by Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, held at NIESV Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State.

 

Bankole commended NIESV Osun for being a vital partner to the government, emphasizing that the association plays a crucial role in the state’s infrastructure and development.

 

“We value this association, and we recognize its importance, and we are working very closely together because we believe that your institution is essential to our government.”

 

Speaking further, the Commissioner, however, tasked members of NIESV Osun State chapter to intensify efforts in eradicating quackery within the institution, particularly issues related to house agents damaging the association’s reputation.

 

Bankole also advised the Estate Valuers Institution in Osun to investigate cases of overvalued properties in the state, stressing the need for professionalism in the practice.

 

The Governor’s representative assured the association of government patronage and cooperation, highlighting the collaborative relationship between the government and NIESV Osun.

 

He used the medium to advise students present at the event to work hard, stay focused, and learn from their elders, and he encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from the experienced professionals.

President and Chairman of Council of Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, ESV Victor Alonge, PNIVS, FRICS, FCIoD made the statement that provision of adequate infrastructure plays a critical role in shaping a country’s economic landscape.

 

Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Infrastructure development in the face of economic downturn”, the President noted that robust infrastructure fosters a conducive environment for economic expansion, promotes economic growth and productivity, improves living standards, and ultimately enhances sustainable economic development, for which reason, challenges of funding and regulatory hurdles must be frontally addressed.

 

He commended the present administration in the state and country for mobilizing and injecting more resources into infrastructure development.

 

The NIESV President urged participants to make the best out of the training programme, and ensure that they leave the venue nourished and equipped with knowledge, bearing in mind that Estate Surveyors and Valuers play critical roles in infrastructure and national economic development.

 

In his address, the Osun state Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, ESV Adekunle Adedoye FNIVS, RSV eulogized the institution impact in development, and training, accessing knowledge and skill in rendering services to the public.

 

He added that the MCPD theme and sub-theme was chosen to reflect professional synergy, ethical practices and legislative framework required to achieve infrastructural development in the face of economic downturn.

In the lecture titled: ‘The Alternative & Innovative Financing System as an Effective Strategy Towards Infrastructural Development In Nigeria, Esv (Dr) Makanjuola Ojewumi FNIVS, FDP-CR, IRRV, RSV, posited that there are four fundamental infrastructure sectors that are essential for neighborhoods, towns, and cities to function and grow: road and transport network, energy mix, communication, and water, adding that infrastructural development maximizes real estate growth and values.

 

 

He emphasized that a well-developed infrastructure reduces transportation costs, connects markets, and enhances the quality of life for citizens, and urged the federal and state governments to embrace redevelopment, infrastructural provision and urban renewal, adding that it will ensure quicker, more efficient, predictable and sustainable growth of Nigeria’s infrastructure across the six geo-political zones.

 

Also speaking on Legal and Regulatory Framework on/and Investment Strategies for Infrastructure Development During Economic Downturn, Prof. Abel Olaleye (PhD, FMVA®, ANIVS, RSV, MCArb) Professor of Real Estate, Department of Estate Management, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, stated that Nations’ growth and economic development are believed to be facilitated and accelerated by infrastructure development, and it is difficult to achieve meaningful economic development and growth without a flourishing infrastructure sector.

 

He maintained that Nigeria cannot rely on government budget and funding alone, towards meeting the infrastructure needs of the nation, hence the need to involve private sector participants. He opined that Governments, all over the world, are now collaborating with private sector entity to provide public infrastructure and services. He pointed out that the huge deficit in Nigerian infrastructure underscores the importance of the ongoing collaborative efforts between the public and private sector stakeholders.

 

Speaking on ‘The Ethical Practice of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Infrastructure Development During Economic Downturns,’ Prof. (ESV) Timothy Tunde Oladokun, stated that the estate surveyors and valuers provide expert advice for individuals, investors, lenders and fund managers, firms and government on issues of economic and efficient use of real estate and other tangible and intangible assets. The importance of real estate is enormous, cutting across all spheres of life.

 

He urged the estate Valuers professionals to be ethical in the discharge of their professional duties and avoid ethical dilemma and crisis as much as possible.

 

The MCPD workshop provided a platform for discussions on issues affecting the profession and the state’s development, It was well-attended by members of NIESV Osun and other stakeholders such as; the Hon. National Treasurer, ESV Olabode Abdulazeez, FNIVS, Hon. National Publicity Secretary, ESV Richard Olodu, FNIVS, Un-official members of the Council, ESV Dotun Bamigbola, FNIVS, ESV Oyeniyi Olagoke, FNIVS, Ondo State Branch Chairman, ESV Akintomide Akinlabi, FNIVS, Oyo State Branch Chairman, ESV Fisayo Ogunbiyi, FNIVS, Kwara State Branch Chairman, ESV Kehinde Ali, FNIVS, Ekiti State Branch Chairman, ESV Olusola Ekundayo, ANIVS, Elders and Fellows of the profession, Associates and student members from the various Branches of the Institution.
