NEMA HONOURS NIGERIAN AIR FORCE WITH AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR HUMANITARIAN SERVICE

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola Operations Office, has presented a Commendation and Award of Excellence to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 153 Base Services Group, Yola, in recognition of its exceptional humanitarian service, professionalism, and steadfast partnership in disaster response and community support across Adamawa State.

NEMA praised the Base for its “uncommon dedication and selfless commitment,” noting its pivotal role since 2014 in providing medical support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the insurgency and, more recently, its decisive intervention during the July 2025 flood in Yola South. During the flood response, NAF personnel, vehicles, and medical teams were swiftly deployed to assist in rescue operations, evacuate victims, deliver emergency aid, and provide critical security and logistics support.

According to Mr Ladan Ayuba, Head of Operations for the NEMA Yola Office, the Base distinguished itself through sustained humanitarian contributions, including the provision of rescue transport and potable water to IDP camps, security during relief distribution, and assistance in safely returning displaced persons to their communities.

The Agency emphasised that these efforts reflect the true spirit of inter-agency cooperation and national service, commending the Nigerian Air Force for consistently standing beside the people during moments of distress. Such interventions, NEMA noted, exemplify dedication, discipline, and compassion — hallmarks of the NAF’s enduring service to humanity.

The recognition, which aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar’s vision of a people-centred Nigerian Air Force, underscores the Service’s commitment to national development and humanitarian impact.

The Commander, 153 Base Services Group, Group Captain Mu’azu Mohammed Mu’azu, dedicated the award to the Chief of the Air Staff for his visionary leadership and people-focused guidance, while extending special appreciation to the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, for his steadfast support and mentorship.

He noted that their leadership continues to inspire the Group’s unwavering devotion to service and excellence in humanitarian operations. The Nigerian Air Force, through this recognition, reassures all Nigerians of its continued readiness to protect lives, support communities in need, and remain a reliable partner in peace, safety, and national resilience.
