FGM: HFDI Commends Survivors, Reiterates Advocacy, Commitment To Eradication

By Abisola Ariwodola,

Hope For Family Development Initiatives HFDI, a frontline humanitarian organization has commended survivors of Female Genital Mutilation, despite the challenges the experience brought their way.

This is as the organization reiterated its determination of consistent advocacy to bring the prevalence to zero, and it also rededicated its commitment to eradication of female Genital Mutilation/Cutting on the girl child and women in the society.

This was the statement made by Hope For Family Development Initiatives HFDI to commemorate the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness Day, a momentous occasion dedicated to shedding light on one of the most egregious violations of human rights affecting women and girls worldwide.

According to the statement, signed by the Executive Director HFDI, Ambassador Dr Aremu Stephen Akinyele, FGM, also known as female circumcision or cutting, entails the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. This deeply entrenched practice persists in numerous communities, primarily in Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, despite global efforts to eradicate it.

The organization frowned at the prevalence in this parts of the country and reiterated its resolve as ambassador of End of Female Genital Mutilation, adding that the action is barbaric. Unhealthy and very risky with high future health challenges on its victims.

The HFDI boss affirmed that HFDI will continue to in solidarity with survivors and activists who tirelessly advocate for the abandonment of this harmful tradition.

“We reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and bodily integrity of all women and girls till the scourge of the traditional practice of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting comes to zero point” – the statement added.
