HFDI Sensitizes Nursing Mothers on Exclusive Breastfeeding in Osun state

Hope for Family Development Initiatives, HFDI in order for babies to have good immune system and grow healthy have sensitized nursing mothers on exclusive breastfeeding of their babies.
This is as the organization as part of its community sensitization urged nursing mothers to breastfeed their wards well so as to have healthy children, and ensures that an infant that receives only breast milk from his or her mother, or expressed breast milk, and no other liquids or solids, with the exception of oral rehydration solution, drops or syrups consisting of vitamins, minerals supplements or medicines.
The advocacy was made by HFDI Team to Enikanoyun PHC, Kolawole in Olorunda local government area of the state.
Speaking on the function of breast milk, Kehinde Adebisi explained that breast milk has three different and distinct stages: colostrum (1-3days) transitional milk (2 weeks), and mature milk, essential for the children.
She added that breast milk contains antibodies that help babies to fight off viruses and bacteria and that it lowers baby’s risk of having asthma or allergies, saying that they also benefit from appropriate jaw, teeth and speech development as well as overall facial development.
In response, one of the officers in charge of the Primary Health Center (PHC) who was on ground, Mrs. Yemisi Oladiran appreciated HFDI for bringing such program to their community and promised to render the necessary support.
