GBV: OSUN SURVIVORS RECEIVES CASH GRANTS FROM MRS OYETOLA

It was all smiles, cheers and praises for the wife of the governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola when she hosted the survivors of Gender Based Violence in her office at GRA Okefia government house, Osogbo.

 

Coming barely few weeks after the recently concluded July 16 governorship election in the state, Mrs Oyetola affirmed and reaffirmed her commitment with the support of her husband, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to continue to put smiles on the faces of the people of the state.

 

Describing leadership as a call to meet the yearnings and expectations of the people, Mrs Oyetola who is also the Chairperson of the Southern Governors Wives Forum urged the survivors of Gender Based Violence in the state to make judicious use of the cash grants given to them by McArthur Foundation through her office, to start a viable business that will augment their means of livelihood.

 

Mrs Oyetola who is also the Chairperson, Gender Based Violence in Osun state, stated that the empowerment meeting held with the GBV survivors was aimed at further giving their lives a sense of hope and belonging geared towards putting smiles back on their faces.

 

She stressed that one of the objectives of the grants, through the Southern Governor’s Wives forum is to ensure that gender based violence survivors get necessary assistance and support from McArthur Foundation to all Nigerian Governors Wives Forum.

 

She also urged the beneficiaries to forget the past and embrace the present with renewed determination and commitment.

 

Reiterating that women should not suffer violence in anyway on account of their gender, the wife of Osun governor called on all stakeholders to form a synergy specifically targeted at eliminating all kinds of traditional beliefs and practices that would create bias for women and their emancipation.

 

Mrs Oyetola who enjoined women to fight for their rights at all times equally urged them to take advantage of all available channels of reporting and speaking out when they hear or see any case of Gender Based Violence.

 

Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of cash grants aimed at empowering the survivors of Gender Based Violence by the wife of the Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola.
